Armistice Day is commemorated every year on 11 November to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I., This took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning—the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918.
A commemorative service for this anniversary is being held on Wednesday 11 November at the Palmerston North Cenotaph. The public are welcome to attend the ceremony which will begin promptly at 11:00am. Returned and serving personnel are requested to form up at the iSite at 10:45am if they wish to march.
There will be feature speakers including the Mayor of Palmerston North, Rangitāne, RNZAF Base Commander of Ohakea and the Palmerston North Youth Ambassador.
This service will be followed by the Poppy Places Streets of Significance as part of the street-naming initiative at the Palmerston North Conference & Function Centre.
