Kevin Jared Hosein is one of the striking new Caribbean voices to be revealed to the literary world. His latest novel, Hungry Ghosts, which delves into colonisation in his native Trinidad and Tobago, has been lauded by Bernadine Evaristo and the late great Hilary Mantel for its page-turning intensity. Kevin speaks with Julie Hill about balancing teaching with writing, what becoming a republic has meant for his home country and what ghosts remain of the colonial past.
“Hungry Ghosts is an astonishing novel – linguistically gorgeous, narratively propulsive and psychologically profound.” – Bernadine Evaristo.
“This is a deeply impressive book, and I think an important one. Energy and inventiveness distinguish every page.” – Hilary Mantel.
