Rotorua’s Heritage Village, Te Amorangi Museum holds and displays an amazing collection from the 1920 era. The 1925 Douslin House, fully refurbished, gives an excellent example of the mod cons of the day, furnishings and décor. Seek out the room with fascinating clocks! 1920 Street shops of millinery, saddlery and groceries, share their area with Cosy Cottage and a 1906 Rotorua Gaol (jail) and the original 1905 Whakarewarewa Post Office filled with forms of telecommunications of the past. Walk past horse drawn carts, steam and stationery engines to find the very proud 1892 McLaren Traction Engine and an impressive display of Mamaku’s past tramways and sawmills. The children will love playing on pieces on display in the grounds including the water feature and they can take a ride on the model train which runs every Thursday and Sunday.
